The Department of Engineering is offering an exciting opportunity for the right individual with a positive, proactive attitude to take on the role of Course Administrator for the MPhil in Nuclear Energy which is offered on a part-time basis.

This role is based in Division A (Fluid Mechanics, Energy & Turbomachinery) at the Department's site in Trumpington Street. The Division has grown rapidly; partly through the establishment of externally supported academic posts, and also through a significant increase in the number of contract researchers. Many of the research grants are in collaboration with industry. Division A also has a satellite operation at the Whittle Laboratory in West Cambridge.

The Nuclear Energy Masters course has been running since 2011 and is an eleven month course for students with a 2.1 in engineering, physics or other science subjects. It attracts applicants from the UK and overseas and has a cohort size of between 15 - 25 students per academic year.

You will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of all practical elements of the Nuclear Energy MPhil Course from application through to assessment and dissertation. This will include timetabling the course, organising external UK and European visits, and reporting to Course Management on course income and expenditure. As well as assisting the Course Director in the day-to-day running of the course to ensure its smooth operation, you will play a key role in building and maintaining good working relationships with students, industry club members and academics across the University. A proportion of your time will also be spent working on research grants.

Educated to HND, HNC, level 4/5 vocational qualifications or an equivalent level of practical experience, you will be an experienced user of Microsoft Office, and possess excellent organisational skills. Previous administrative experience in a higher education environment is essential and a working knowledge of Cambridge University systems would be desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary pre-requisites for this role.

Interviews for this post are expected to take place during w/c 23 September 2024.

If you think you are the ideal candidate for this role, we would be delighted to hear from you.
