Leeds Beckett University have a fantastic opportunity to work on this exciting collaboration with NuGreen Ltd on a 28 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). The role will be at the centre of a project to process and utilise healthcare waste to create new products in new sectors. You will develop the first iteration of new innovation and New Product Development pathways to bring a commercially viable low-carbon aggregate substitute to market in the highly regulated construction industry.

The project and role are vital in fulfilling NuGreen’s strategic aim develop and commercialise further products, to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare, and to reduce the drain on dwindling natural resources. This project will support NuGreen to be positioned at the forefront of innovation to help address the UKs net zero ambitions.

The role presents the successful candidate with wide-ranging experience and an excellent development opportunity to lead a project across a range of business functions, including testing, new product development and commercialisation, with genuine potential to be employed by the business post-project.

NuGreen is a research-led, sustainability consultancy based near Kirby Lonsdale, Cumbria. Their vision is to repurpose medical waste efficiently, to create something new, to reduce emissions, creating a sustainable culture within healthcare.

We need an enthusiastic, self-motivated person bringing not only technical engineering and materials science expertise but project management capabilities and a commercial mindset in order to manage a multi-faceted project. The associate will require knowledge of laboratory testing at degree level and bring well developed critical analysis skills. They must be able to apply these technical skills and present them to external stakeholders. Strong communication skills and an enthusiastic approach are a must. The ability to coordinate multiple strands of complementary activity facilitated by different experts within the university will also be required.

You will be well supported by academic experts at Leeds Beckett and colleagues at NuGreen Ltd, but you need to be curious, open to new challenges, excited about the sustainability challenge and prepared to involve yourself in all aspects of a business.

A Bachelor’s degree (2.1 or higher) in civil engineering, materials science or related area is a requirement, with a strong technical background, some experience to materials testing and mechanical and physical properties principles.

This will be a challenging role and for the right candidate will present an excellent opportunity to make a tangible difference to the business, grow their own skill set and experience and with a very realistic chance of permanent employment at the end of the project.

The project provides dedicated budgets to support training and development (£2k pa) alongside opportunities to access the university’s pension scheme, staff benefits and discounts, staff training and development programmes as well as high level support from expert Leeds Beckett academics.  The university also offers candidates the opportunity to study for a higher degree (MRes, MPhil or PhD) with a fee waiver in place.

There is a travel and subsistence budget included in the project.

Closing date: Thursday 19th September 2024 (23:59)
