The Department
The successful candidate will join the vibrant Developmental Psychology Group who host regular meetings and activities, as well as have the opportunity to join a host of exciting inter-disciplinary networks in the University such as those supporting early career researchers. The successful candidate will gain opportunities to learn about different research methodologies and technologies utilised by the faculty in the department and adopt best practices to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and replicability.
The Role
The 18-month fixed-term Research Assistant (RA) position is available 2.5 days per week in the Department of Psychology at Durham University. The successful candidate will join the research project “Age-based imitation bias throughout development, during daily interactions, and across cultures” led by Dr Sheina Lew-Levy and funded by UKRI ESRC grant. The project focuses on children’s imitation of peers and adults in everyday life.
The Project:
Expectations: The successful applicant will mostly participate in video coding of naturalistic videos. The candidate will also help coordinate team meetings for the project. Standard RA responsibilities and specific requirements are listed in more detail below.
This post is ideal for those who have finished a master’s degree and want to gain more work and research experience before pursuing a PhD. This position will prepare the post holder research experience valuable to future independent work aimed toward impactful research with community samples.

This post is fixed term for 18 months. The funding is available from January 2025 for this fixed term only.
The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.
Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by 2nd January 2025.
