The University of Reading Whiteknights Campus comprises of 130 hectares of beautiful parkland and lakes, we are leaders in UK higher education, renowned for expertise in climate science, business, agriculture, and food science.

The role involves managing and delivering a variety of repair and refurbishment projects, in collaboration with departments across Estates and the wider university. The role will require close collaboration with the direction of the Estates Strategy, Space Management, Sustainability and Campus Operations colleagues, as well as other university teams such as Health & Safety Services, Technical Services, Campus Commerce, timetabling  and Academic Departments and procurement. The post holder will be expected to provide advice and support relating to a range of building fabric and maintenance issues to these key stakeholders,

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate detailed working knowledge of construction management, JCT contracts and frameworks, and all relevant legislation and guidance relating to the management of maintenance and construction works.

The post holder will be expected to work autonomously, taking personal responsibility for ensuring that they and their contractors are working in conformity with a range of University procedures and centralised systems including Concerto CAFM , EDMS filing  and using and developing the Campus Project Manual for small projects as well as  those relating to health & safety/risk management and procurement.

You will have: 

  • Extensive experience in building surveying, managing small to medium-sized property projects and be MRICS/MCIOB qualified.
  • A problem-solving approach to matters of maintenance repairs and replacements will be critical to success in the role, and the post holder will be expected to be able to think around the specific issues and seek the best, most pragmatic solution to task.
  • An ability to see the bigger picture and identify where a larger scale intervention may be required in order to address a particular issue, or to allow for potential improvements to building fabric or services to be effected in conjunction with works that are required.
