The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences (SRES) was created in August 2017, bringing together a diverse community of academics. As a large school, we offer our students a wide range of courses with a blend of experiential learning. SRES is recognised across the world for taking excellence in both education and research seriously. We deliver courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in subjects like sports and exercise sciences and psychology, physiotherapy, sports therapy, and sports performance. SRES also presents exciting opportunities for new inter-disciplinary collaborations within the university (Institute for Public Health and Wellbeing; School of Life Sciences; Institute for Social and Economic Research; the Centre for Brain Science; School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, School of Health and Social Care; and the Institute for Analytics and Data Science) and partnerships working with external agencies (e.g., The Rugby Football Union, England Institute of Sport, Royal Ballet School).

Duties of the Role

The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of learning and teaching within the School, primarily supporting the physiotherapy educational provision or as assigned by the Head of School. We also wish to develop the School’s research in physiotherapy and rehabilitation and the successful applicant will be expected to make a significant contribution to this goal.

A full list of duties can be found within the respective jobpacks attached.

As part of the process and to be successful you will be required to demonstrate how you your research has been impactful within and beyond the academic sphere, recognising the importance of this and the effect it will have on the University.

Qualifications and Skills required

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Physiotherapy to complement our existing staff and contribute to our three very successful pre-registration physiotherapy degrees. We would welcome applications from candidates who have experience beyond the field of musculoskeletal to complement our existing staff expertise. Whilst the successful applicant will be part of our physiotherapy team, we would consider applications from candidates who do not have a physiotherapy degree but could contribute positively to our programmes (e.g., other allied health professionals, rehabilitation and/or exercise professionals).

The successful candidate will possess a relevant doctoral level research degree in physiotherapy or a related discipline or be close to completion of PhD.

The University of Essex is a campus based University and all academic appointments are made with the expectation that you will be present on campus to fulfil the requirements of your position. At the time of a job offer, the possibility of hybrid working, will be discussed and considered on an individual basis, but you will be required to be based within the UK.
