About us

Based at UCL Faculty of Laws, our new centre for democratic constitutionalism aims to advance scholarly understanding of the relationship between democratic government and the rule of law globally, with a particular focus on identifying the supporting conditions for constitutional resilience in electorally competitive political systems. The Centre’s work on democratic constitutionalism and constitutional resilience is organised into the following workstreams: comparative constitutional design; the rule of law; the judicial protection of human rights; the legislative process; federalism and multi-level government; and the legal regulation of elections, referendums, and political parties (the ‘law of democracy’). Throughout this programme of research, the emphasis will always be not only on the formal structures for democratic governance and the rule of law but on the political and social conditions for making them sustainable. In doing so, members will have par ticular regard to the social and political pressures resulting from the impacts of growing inequality, climate change, reliance on social media and the uncertain impact of artificial intelligence.

About the role

The role holder is expected to be present in the Faculty to work with the team for around 3 days per week. Interview date: Week commencing 02 September 2024
