Department
The Academic Section is part of the University’s Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration in partnership with Departments, Schools and Faculties. It plays a central role in delivering the University’s commitment to excellence in education across the institution. The Section is also the guardian of the student experience and leads, promotes, and embeds the institutional commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do.

The Student Life Directorate is part of the Academic Section and encompasses Student Development, Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity, and Student Services; all of which support student progression, success and graduate employability. We are committed to innovation and continuous enhancement within our services and to working collaboratively across all areas of the University, and beyond, for the benefit of our students.

The Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service (SWIS) leads the delivery of our exciting vision for student wellbeing and inclusivity. We seek to deliver a service that provides a professional and proactive service for students within a wider safe, healthy and inclusive environment, and supports our students to fulfil their potential as individuals and to enable them to be active participants in their own educational experiences and the transformational opportunities available to them at the University of Essex.

Duties of the Role
To develop, plan, oversee and deliver a series of initiatives, projects and activities aimed at promoting an accessible and inclusive environment for students across the university with a view to providing students with the tools they need to succeed in their studies. The successful candidate will develop and deliver high quality guidance to university staff regarding accessibility and inclusive practice for our students. You will be responsible for evaluating performance and identifying opportunity for improvement and driving forward projects within the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service.

This is a fixed-term, part-time post working 28.8 hours per week (0.8 FTE) to 23 August 2025 in order to provide cover for a permanent member of staff who is absent from work on maternity leave.

Skills and qualifications required
The post holder must be educated to degree level or equivalent and be experienced in project management. They must also have the ability to lead the development of proactive services that realise the University’s strategic objectives and provide excellent support to staff and students in promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

Due to the nature of the role, it is essential you can fulfil the staff vetting requirements in respect of University Positions of Trust.
