We seek to recruit a Senior Academic Development Manager in the Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) to lead, shape and deliver Prosper at Durham. The postholder will be a champion for early career researchers across the university and will seek to enable our early career researchers to realise their potential and fulfil their ambitions.

The Role

The Senior Academic Development Manager will be pivotal in enabling the strategic development and implementation of Prosper at Durham, with a focus on creating a programme that is flexible, inclusive and accessible. They will create training and development resources and undertake a substantial proportion of the training and coaching aspects of Prosper alongside internal and external facilitators. The post-holder will be responsible for the operational management of the programme and will have excellent organisational and communication skills and will nurture positive collaborative relationships.

There will be opportunities for the post-holder to develop in their role (e.g. in scholarship and/or management and leadership) and engage in opportunities within the researcher development environment at Durham and explore new avenues for early career researcher training, development and networking that may be of strategic importance for the university.

The Senior Academic Development Manager will be supported by colleagues in DCAD and the Research Culture Team in Research and Innovation Services. The post-holder will work across the university with different divisions including the four academic faculties, University Research Institutes, Human Resources and Organisation Development, and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion unit.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to develop a career in researcher development and leadership. The role requires someone who is passionate about the career development of researchers, can design and deliver researcher training and has the drive to engage in innovative approaches to co-create and advance a positive research culture at Durham across the research community.

Working arrangements

This role is fulltime (35 hours/week) but we will consider requests for flexible working arrangements including potential job shares. It is expected that this role will be predominantly face-to-face on campus, and the successful applicant will be prepared to locate to the northeast of England. There will be some scope for hybrid working arrangements in agreement with line manager, but this post will not be fully hybrid

The post is full time, fixed Term for 12 Months, preferably starting in October 2024. This post is 1 year in the first instance but likely to be extended subject to funding.
