We are recruiting Specialist Mentors (Mental Health) to provide one-to-one support to students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study. We will consider candidates available to work between 15 and 37 hours per week during semester time (30 weeks per year). Some overtime outside of semester may be available. The post holder will work in a hybrid pattern both remotely and on-site. They will mainly be based on the Headington campus but may need to travel to other campuses. 

These are fixed term posts for 2 years.

As Specialist Mentor you will:

  • Provide professional specialist mentoring for individual students with mental health difficulties.
  • Conduct initial assessment of students (including risk assessment in relation to complex mental health needs).
  • Select approaches relevant to the individual's needs and/or refer to other services where appropriate.
  • Manage a caseload of work with a range of students, including students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Adhere to timescales, reporting procedures and record-keeping requirements of the DSA Membership Standards for NMH Providers.

You should have:

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Qualification, training and professional membership as required by the DSA Membership Standards for NMH Providers.
  • Experience of providing one-to-one support to individuals with mental health difficulties.
  • Substantial experience of working within a related field.

Interviews are expected to take place on Friday 13th September and Wednesday 18th September 2024. 

This role will not attract sufficient points to obtain a sponsored Skilled Worker visa under the points-based immigration system, however applications are welcome from candidates who don’t currently have the right to work in the UK, but who would be eligible to obtain a visa via another route.

Please note: the successful applicant will need to be subject to a background disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before any appointment can be confirmed.
