About the role

UCL Department of Political Science wishes to appoint a fixed term leave cover, Associate Lecturer (Teaching) in European Politics. The Associate Lecturer is expected to deliver a single module in Term 1 of academic year 2024-25: POLS0020 Politics of the European Union. They may also be asked to second mark one module delivered by another member of staff.

This module critically explores the European Union (EU) and its main political processes: integration, disintegration (Brexit), Euroscepticism, institutional set-up, and key policy areas (Single Market, Economic and Monetary Union, labour and welfare policies, migration policies).

The appointment is covering leave taken by permanent staff, and will run from 1 September 2024 to 28 February 2025 (6 months) at 0.40 FTE. The appointed candidate will be provided with all required module materials, including reading lists, essay questions, seminar plans, and lecture slides. The postholder will also be expected to be hold office hours each week during term time.

The role will include lecture and seminar teaching, student experience and support activity, and personal tutoring. The postholder will be expected to first and second mark assignments and will also be expected to be available for office hours each week as required.

About you

We are seeking applicants who hold a PhD in Political Science or related subject, with teaching and research expertise in European Politics. We welcome applications from candidates from under-represented backgrounds. We also welcome applications from candidates using a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches.
