Join us as a Lecturer in Biodiversity Science at The University of Salford and be part of Team Salford, and one of the UK’s fastest growing universities.

The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) is home to a diverse, global community of over 6000 undergraduate, postgraduate and research students supported by over 300 colleagues, and a hub of discovery and innovation. Drawing on an academic portfolio from Architecture to Zoology, our multidisciplinary approach is designed to shape the next generation of scientists, engineers, urbanists, and climate leaders.

The Biology & Wildlife team delivers a range of well-respected programmes at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, which carry accreditation by the Royal Society of Biology. Current undergraduate teaching is centred around Biological Sciences, Marine Biology, Wildlife Conservation, and Zoology. At MSc level, taught provision includes a degree in Wildlife Conservation. The REF 2021 results are a testament to our high-quality research, with the majority of our submitted outputs judged to make important contributions to the international field (26% judged to be world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigor).

We are now looking to appoint a Lecturer in the Biology & Wildlife Subject Area to further strengthen these activities. Applicants should be committed to high quality research-led teaching across a range of relevant programmes and should demonstrate their independent research potential. To complement existing strengths in the area, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in innovative technologies applied to biodiversity science. Such expertise could involve, but is not limited to, cutting-edge approaches at the interface between field- and lab-based research, and the analysis of biodiversity data in a technologically innovative context. We are also particularly interested in candidates with existing links to employers and industries.

The University of Salford is committed to an inclusive approach to equity and diversity. We are proud of our diverse student population, and it is important for us to create an inclusive culture where all our students and colleagues can bring their whole selves to the University. It is important to us that our students see themselves reflected in those who teach them, and that Higher Education is a place where they can thrive. We make every effort to form shortlisting and interview panels that are diverse in terms of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, and socio-economic background.

Applicants will be required to have a first degree and a PhD in a discipline relevant to the biological sciences. Further information about the School can be found at https://www.salford.ac.uk/science-engineering-and-environment.
