We are seeking a highly motivated, qualified and experienced librarian to fill this Subject Librarian vacancy within the Academic Services section of the University of Bath Library. 

You will provide exemplary services as librarian for the Departments of Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, working within the Library’s Engineering & Design subject team. You will have responsibility for the provision of library induction, information skills teaching, liaison, enquiry handling and the development of library collections, to support all library users within your academic departments. You will participate in appropriate department meetings and build excellent professional relationships with academic and professional staff in these departments.

You will manage expenditure of the Library materials budgets for your departments, taking responsibility for decisions on purchase and subscription to the electronic and print materials required to support teaching, learning and research. 

You will work closely with the Engineering & Design Faculty Librarian, to ensure co-ordination of services and equity of provision across the Faculty, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the Library, in Academic, Operational and Research Services to provide and develop Library support. You will also liaise with publishers and professional groups, to ensure you keep up to date with developments in resource provision and new publishing models, and obtain best value for money in purchases and subscriptions. 

Subject Librarians will take on additional areas of responsibilities, as appropriate to their role and service requirements. Currently this role has responsibility for managing the Library’s programme of Doctoral Skills provision.

You should be innovative and collaborative in your work, with excellent communication skills in both in person and online environments. An ability to work accurately with numerical and financial data, and a range of IT systems and media will be essential. Experience of supporting subject disciplines and resources relevant to the teaching and research interests of Electronic & Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, or similar subject knowledge would be an advantage.

Further information

Applicants should have a CILIP accredited qualification in librarianship or information studies, or equivalent, to at least undergraduate level, and be a Chartered member of, or committed to completing Chartership with CILIP.
