About the role

The Interdisciplinary Ed Tech Lab (IETL) is seeking to appoint a Learning Software Developer to help create innovative educational technologies in collaboration with colleagues across the university and key external partners. The successful candidate will collaborate with the IETL and project teams, including the Learning Technology and Software Lead, Learning Designers and Technologists, Teaching Fellows and the Digital Media Lab to develop exciting learning technology solutions in a range of contexts.  

What you would be doing

You will have the opportunity to develop cutting edge EdTech solutions and content for online, blended and face-to-face programmes and modules. For example, existing projects involve:  

  • Building 2D and 3D web-based learning experiences using JavaScript and frameworks like d3js and PlayCanvas, hosted on platforms like Blackboard and EdX 
  • Docker-based Python programming environments and auto-graders for courses on Coursera

Working with Imperial College London’s Unity-based Virtual Reality Student Experience (ViRSE) platform to develop VR learning experiences for on-campus students.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in a relevant field, or demonstrable industry experience equivalent
  • Experience developing interactive applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and associate frameworks
  • Understanding of software engineering and version control tools such as GitHub
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles
  • Time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work
  • Interpersonal communication skills, whether face-to-face, in online meetings or in writing 
  • Ability to write high quality technical documentation and communicate technical concepts with non-technical team members 
  • Demonstrable ability and interest in learning new skills and following changing approaches 
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
