Location: Norwich
Salary: £37,099 per annum with an annual increment up to 44,263 per annum.
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 9th August 2024

Salary on appointment will be 37,099 per annum with an annual increment up to 44,263 per annum.

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate to join the Sainsbury Research Unit.

You will contribute to the research programme of the British Academy Global Professorship award to Professor Sule Sani, entitled Looking Forward, Looking Back: Past and Present West African Communities Revealed through Museum Collections project (GP23\100008).

The project aims to deploy archaeology, museum practice and stakeholder engagement to study large and under-researched collections from key Nigerian sites, drawing on archaeological, ethnographic, and archival data held in British and Nigerian museums. The programme will bring new understandings of African history, and of UK/Nigerian research histories, through online resources, exhibitions and outreach in the UK and Nigeria.

You will be expected to function responsibly and autonomously within the SRU complex and UEA work environment. Independent thinking and action are requisite to a successful career in Africa Archaeology that primes museum collections.

You will work with the Principal Investigator to excavate materials in the holdings of museums in the UK and Nigeria alike. This involves evaluating materials for locating West African people’s social and cultural identities. You will be expected to contribute to the ambitious plans for public engagement and delivery in collaboration with the Education teams of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and Jos Museum.

In addition to contributing to the implementation of the project research objectives, there will be opportunities to contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision should you wish to and after consultation with Professor Sule.

Further information on our great benefits package, including 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and additional University Customary days can be found on our benefits page.

This full-time role is available from 6 January 2025 on a fixed term basis for 40 months.

Closing date: 19 September 2024
