ROLE PURPOSE:

Metanoia is committed to the training and development of future tutors and has implemented its Teaching Assistant Programme in support of this initiative. At the heart of Metanoia’s Teaching Assistant programme is the close working relationship with the Primary Tutor with whom the Assistant works. This relationship (whilst not a co-facilitating one as in a peer relationship) needs to be co-operative

Professional Development

The Programme offers professional development in the follow areas:

  • Consolidation of theory.
  • Preparation towards professional training accreditation.
  • The opportunity to experience aspects of being a trainer and to enlarge skills as a trainer and supervisor through. o Modelling from tutors o Receiving feedback on their work, o Identifying growing edges and exploring ways forward. o Co-operative learning.

ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES: .

In Supporting the Primar Tutor, the Teaching Assistant will:

  • Share their understanding of group process/individual trainees/structure and process of training.

Provide practical support through:

  • Checking training rooms are ready
  • Managing administration e.g.
    • Record of live supervision presentations/small group work
    • Papers o Record outstanding work
    • Record individual therapy/supervision arrangements

In addition, the Teaching Assistant will contribute to:

  • Teaching theory
  • Group process
  • Live supervision
  • Small groups – supervision
  • Informing trainers of group process
  • Keeping history of contracts/growing edges
  • Being an “oral historian” for the group
  • Being a contact point as needed (but being aware of the possibility of polarisation)

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Must be a qualified psychotherapist.
  • Eagerness to pursue a career within Higher Education (Please Note: we cannot guarantee a primary tutor position)
