Shape the Future of Research and Innovation: Lead Strategic Knowledge Exchange at Research England.

Job Overview

Research England is one of the nine Councils within UK Research and Innovation. As a key component of the research funding system, Research England will oversee UKRI’s England-only functions in relation to university research and knowledge exchange (KE).

As the Director of Knowledge Exchange, you will provide strategic leadership of policy development and delivery of the knowledge exchange functions of Research England and UKRI, and to the related aspects of the research and innovation system delivered through higher education institutions in England.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Research England Senior Leadership Team, the Director for Knowledge Exchange will:

  • Contribute to the senior leadership, strategy development, stakeholder engagement and management of Research England, development, and delivery of Research England’s Strategic Delivery Plans and across UKRI, particularly in the area of Place and commercialisation.
  • Provide Intellectual leadership as an authority for the university sector, Government/national policy, in areas of knowledge exchange/commercialisation in the UK and international context.  Deliver thought leadership in a complex area straddling multiple stakeholder domains and public and private contexts.).
  • Provide strategic leadership for the Council’s knowledge exchange function and teams and oversight of all related technical related and operational matters. 
  • Develop and oversee Research England’s data and evidence programme for knowledge exchange working with key partners and stakeholders.

About you

  • Extensive experience of working in research related to knowledge exchange and commercialisation and/or related science policy roles.
  • Broad knowledge and experience of the knowledge exchange and commercialisation environment and in particular, demonstrate national and university-level policy and practice experience, with wide-ranging understanding of the role of universities in the economy and society and how these interface with research and teaching aspects of higher education.
  • Experience of overseeing and delivering complex programmes at a system level whilst simultaneously managing change and reconciling the work of several teams in pursuit of the longer-term strategic objectives of the organisation
  • Experience of delivering effective organisational governance in a public or third sector organisation including experience of strategic delivery of funding/programmes in universities and research base, including experience of complex numerical/statistical methods of funding
