About the role:

The Public Involvement and Project Officer will support the public and community involvement in research activities of the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre by the provision of advice and training to researchers on public and community involvement in research, and facilitating public and community involvement activities.

What you would be doing:

You will support up to four Imperial Biomedical Research Centre research themes to deliver the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre Patient, Public, Involvement, Engagement and Participation Strategy. You will support and manage the patients and members of the public providing their public involvement advice to these themes including strategic public steering groups linked to each theme. You will also build relationships through community outreach activities with underrepresented and underserved communities in research across North West London (i.e. boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Westminster).

What we are looking for:

  • You will need a Master’s degree or equivalent of working in public involvement in research.
  • You will have proven experience of advising health researchers on undertaking public involvement in research.
  • You will be a good communicator and have experience at working with patients, the public and communities in flexible ways appropriate to them.
  • You will have experience of delivering and facilitating public involvement activities.

Further Information

This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 2 years and you will be based at the White City Campus. London Occasional weekend and evening work is expected to accommodate those involved in public involvement and community events.

A DBS clearance is required for this post.

The Imperial Patient Experience Research Centre (PERC) is led by Professor Helen Ward (public health) who has developed a strong interdisciplinary collaboration over the past three decades with research on HIV, sexual health, sex work, breast cancer and health inequalities. PERC also receives additional funding for other projects such as People Like You.
