About the role

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, proactive manager who is committed to providing an excellent assessment management provision. The role sits in the Faculty Education Services department and is responsible for professional, high-quality service provision to both the students and academics of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM).

The post holder will be responsible for managing end-to-end assessment administration across all Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught programmes in the School of Bioscience Education in the faculty, ensuring systems, processes, procedures and data management are effective, accurate and auditable.

The post holder will have excellent organisation skills with experience in undertaking service or process review and providing associated procedural planning and delivery.

The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work across organisational boundaries to understand and meet the programmes’ assessment requirements and to negotiate and influence timely and positive solutions.

The post holder will lead the Assessment team in delivering a professional and service centric provision, ensuring appropriate induction, training, support and guidance for team development and accurate, timely and compliant assessment management delivery.

You will manage the coordination of all assessment activity across programmes; including timely coordination of examination scheduling, examination content, production of papers and mark sheets, coursework and project submission, mark entry & reconciliation, results & feedback processing and publication and servicing of Assessment Boards and Subcommittees where appropriate.

The post holder will have effective networking skills and will be required to collaborate with teams both in Faculty Education Services and FoLSM, as well as across the University and beyond.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience of working in the Higher Education Sector
  • Ability to organise, delegate and plan effectively across competing priorities, demonstrating excellent, clear and concise communication and presentation skills to diverse audiences
  • Experience of or contribution to a service, process or regulatory review and providing procedural systems; implementing change and supporting a team through resultant change
  • Ability to develop and motivate a successful team; setting and delivering objectives, managing performance whilst building succession planning
  • Evidence of capability to interpret and apply College and programme regulations maintaining up to date knowledge of statutory compliance, both internal and external (e.g. GDPR, UKVI, CMA)
  • Excellent attention to detail, with methodical, exacting standards of accuracy and an analytical approach to problem solving; excellent IT skills across all MS packages with significant experience of databases (student records systems) and reporting
  • Ability to form strong professional networks and contributing positively to both implement and influence change
  • Able to negotiate and influence across organisational boundaries to deliver a timely, positive outcome diplomatically

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of administration in a Higher Education environment with in-depth knowledge of the student needs and the events of the student life-cycle
  • Evidence of continued professional training or development
  • Evidence of membership of a professional body (e.g. AUA)
  • Experience of programme governance and delivering professional committee servicing
