The Royal Veterinary College, University of London - Research Support Office

Location: London
Salary: £38,721 to £49,521 per annum including London Weighting
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 6th August 2024
Closes: 6th September 2024
Job Ref: RSO-0184-24

The Royal Veterinary College is the UK’s largest and longest-established independent vet school. As a world leading specialist veterinary and biological science research institution, the RVC brings together talented individuals; all of whom share a passion for human and animal health and welfare.

We’re seeking a Research Development Officer to join our team. This is a newly created role, situated within our busy Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and the post holder will play an important role in a range of activities, including supporting RVC research activity, 88% of which was rated as being world-leading or internationally excellent in REF 2021.

The position will primarily be focused on supporting RVC academics and researchers through the coordination of internal funding calls, supporting the delivery of training and guidance events and workshops, contributing to the development of associated training materials, and the collation of evidence essential for the development of high-quality Impact Case Studies. The post holder will also ensure that proposals for research funding are developed with reference to internal and external policies and concordats, as well as the Research Excellence Framework Assessment, the Knowledge Exchange Framework and other relevant benchmarking and assessment exercises.

The post holder, under the direction of the Head of Research Development, will develop detailed project plans for the tracking, monitoring and reporting on a range of RVC internal pump-priming schemes, and to identify future opportunities for external funding, partnerships or collaborators for these projects.

Experience of working in a similar environment within Higher Education, a funder, or similar organisation will be highly advantageous, as is the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with internal and external stakeholders. This role requires understanding or knowledge of the research funding landscape, and an ability to understand governance and compliance requirements, highlighting any potential areas of risk.

Knowledge and understanding of research management, and using project management for planning of activities, analysis, and budgeting is essential. A degree or appropriate qualification in an area relevant to the research focus of the RVC would be advantageous.

For an informal conversation, please contact Dr Emma Tomlinson, Head of Research Development etomlinson@rvc.ac.uk
