Sexual Assault and Harassment Adviser

Queen Mary University of London - Advice and Counselling Service (Student Experience Directorate)

Location: London
Salary: £42,405 to £49,785 per annum.
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 6th August 2024
Closes: 19th August 2024
Job Ref: 3191

About the Role
The post of Sexual Assault and Harassment Adviser (SAHA) sits within our Advice and Counselling Service, although it will involve close co-operation with other teams within Student Wellbeing, particularly the Policy and Campaigns Manager (Tackling Sexual Violence, Harassment and Hate Crime) post in our Student Life team. We currently have one other SAHA working in the service.

The role recognises the need for Queen Mary to offer students one-to-one support should they report that they have experienced sexual assault or harassment. In addition to offering students support, the post will also require signposting to external services, e.g. the Havens, as well as any appropriate services within the university. You will also provide students with impartial advice and guidance about the options available to raise a case formally either through internal University complaints and disciplinary processes and procedures, or externally with the Police.

About You
The successful candidate will be a graduate with an accredited Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) qualification. The post holder will have demonstrable experience in supporting those who have experienced sexual assault and understand the impact and dynamics of sexual assault, being mindful of the composition of Queen Mary’s student body.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Advice and Counselling Service is a multidisciplinary student support service offering counselling, mental health support, psychiatry clinics, welfare advice, financial advice and immigration advice. Alongside the Disability and Dyslexia Service and the Student Life team, it makes up one third of the student wellbeing division within the Student and Academic Services directorate.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, campus facilities and flexible working arrangements.
