About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a 1-year Barts Charity funded project aiming to investigate bladder cancer risk in patients with urinary tract infections. The post-holder will prepare and analyse a linked routinely collected healthcare dataset. This will involve cleaning the raw data, refining the clinical codes, developing operational definitions of concepts and outcomes, and apply clinical and statistical insights as necessary during the process. The post-holder will be supported by academic clinicians and statisticians throughout. There will also be opportunities to extend and develop other relevant projects using the dataset, suited to the experience and interests of the post-holder, as well as potential extension of contract after the end of this project.

About You

The successful candidate will have a Masters or PhD in data science, statistics or other relevant discipline. Candidates with significant quantitative experience using large health datasets will be considered. They will be familiar with preparing, analysing and interpreting quantitative healthcare data, gaining regulatory and ethical approvals, project management and be a good team player. They will have good time management skills, and have an open, inquisitive mind with respect to the handling and interpretation of health care data.

About the Centre

The Centre for Screening, Prevention, and Early Diagnosis (CCSPED) forms part of the Wolfson Institute of Population Health and brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, cancer screening and detection and early diagnosis across two Units. CCSPED also hosts the cross-cutting Cancer Behavioural Science group and the CRUK-funded Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU, Director, Sasieni).

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square campus in London. It will be a full-time (35 hours per week) fixed term appointment for 1 year, with an expected start date of September 2024. The starting salary will be Grade 4/5, in the range of £38,155 – £42,405 pro-rata (depending on experience), inclusive of London Allowance.
