The role

The University of Bristol IT Services division is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, skilled and experienced professional to join our Web and Security Services Applications team.

This is the senior technical role in team of 4. The team support, maintain and upgrade the University’s web infrastructure and Security Systems applications. The role holder will provide technical knowledge and expertise, with a particular focus on the University’s web platform, whilst also providing technical leadership and mentoring of the team.

What will you be doing?

The role holder has technical responsibility for the team’s set of services, supporting the Team Manager in the operational management of these services and working with the Team Manager and service stakeholders to manage the complete service lifecycle.

You will provide senior technical expertise for the team’s operational support functions, handling incidents, problems, service and change requests and taking a lead on continuous improvement activities within the team’s portfolio.

You will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical and operational documentation.

You will show initiative and agility in maintaining services, you will be confident working independently as well as part of a team. You will be a champion of the IT Services Charter and Change Management and support the delivery of the Digital Strategy.

You should apply if

You have the following:

  • Experience of technical aspects of enterprise application lifecycle management, from implementation, upgrades and maintenance, through to eventual retirement and decommissioning.
  • Experience with all technical aspects of operational application management within an enterprise environment, including monitoring, alerting and reporting.
  • Experience of managing applications on Linux and desirably on Windows platforms.
  • Experience of managing and configuring Apache servers or similar.
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Perl or bash.
  • Some experience of operating systems administration and configuration.
  • Strong problem-solving and planning and organising skills.
  • A background in computer science, information technology, or related fields, or relevant work experience that has prepared you for the responsibilities of the role.
  • Good interpersonal skills, capable of forming excellent long-term working relationships with colleagues.
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking small projects in a technical environment.
  • Able to demonstrate diplomacy, persuasiveness and negotiating skills to maintain relationships with third party providers achieving successful resolution to issues arising.
