Hybrid working – This is a hybrid role that offers flexible working between home and our Streatham Campus.

The Digital department are currently recruiting for a permanent Assistant Director of Data to join their senior leadership team. This senior leadership role is crucial for driving our digital strategy and transforming the university's data capabilities. The successful candidate will set the direction, methodology, and culture for data management, ensuring data quality, privacy, and security. As a leading authority in data, you will work closely with senior stakeholders to champion data-driven decision-making and drive transformational change. What you’ll be doing…

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the university's goals.
  • Establish and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of efficient data management systems and infrastructure.
  • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and innovation across all departments.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and prioritise data initiatives.
  • Build and lead our Data Enterprise Programme to support strategic and tactical decision-making.
  • Implement a data literacy program to enhance data capabilities across the university.
  • Develop and deliver automated, self-serve data reporting and impactful insights.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and innovation to improve user understanding and strategic decisions.
  • Engage and educate senior leadership on the strategic use of data for continuous improvement.

We’re really looking for…

  • Leadership and Team Management skills: Significant senior leadership and management experience of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to create, drive, and implement new data strategies and deliver complex organisational change.
  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of data governance principles and excellent financial and budgetary management acumen.
  • Expertise in data analytics, data science, machine learning, and AI techniques with a track record of delivering automated reporting and meaningful user analysis.
  • Delivery of data programmes: Recent significant experience of delivering data programmes within a complex organisation using proven delivery frameworks or methodologies.
  • User centred: Strong commitment to excellence in user experience, customer service, and translating data insights into improved user experiences.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and gain buy-in for data initiatives.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving: Ability to initiate change, think creatively, and solve complex issues through innovative solutions and collaborative approaches.
  • Experience in a complex organisation: Someone with experience of finding and implementing innovative workforce solutions utilising internal teams and external partnerships.
  • Communication expert: We need an individual who can translate technical language into real talk to help our stakeholders understand our data needs and help transform how data is managed across the university.
