This role will be based at the North Pennines National Landscape Office, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Are you interested in developing a career in peatland restoration with a focus on the use of green finance to deliver restoration? Would you like to utilise your excellent organisational and problem-solving skills to support peatland restoration? Would you like to work on a collaborative and practical project across northern England and in partnership with European collaborators?

There is growing interest in supporting conservation and restoration activities through private finance known broadly as green finance. Environmental and conservation practitioners (e.g. environmental charities, government agencies), are increasingly being exposed to interactions with private actors with an interest in private investment. We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Graduate trainee in green finance and peatland restoration to join the Great North Bog (GNB) and deliver on their ambition to engage private sector investment in the delivery of peatland restoration. The Great North Bog is a coalition of 6 delivery partnerships working across the North of England: Cumbria Peat Partnership, Lancashire Peat Partnership, North Pennines National Landscape, Northumberland Peat Partnership, Moors for the Future Partnership and Yorkshire Peat Partnership.

You will join the North Pennines National Landscape team and be based in their offices as a key member working to deliver sustainable financial solutions for peatland restoration across the Great North Bog. The post is funded through WaterLANDS, an exciting EU project focussing on wetland restoration and you will be an employee of the University of Leeds within the School of Earth & Environment.

The successful candidate should have a familiarity with conservation, have excellent communication skills and be able to manage collaborative working with the North Pennines National Landscape, the Great North Bog, the University of Leeds WaterLANDS team and the European project partners.

The work will involve regular travel within the Great North Bog and there may also be an opportunity for occasional travel to project meetings in other European countries.

Please note that due to Home Office visa requirements, this role is not suitable for first-time Skilled Worker visa applicants.  Information on other visa options is available at: www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas
