Due to securing a UKRI Engineering Biology Mission Award, The Thomas (Chemistry) and Bradshaw (Pharmacy) Groups are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and skilled research technician with excellent practical skills to support synthetic chemistry, molecular biology/protein engineering and mammalian cell culture. The position will be based mainly in the Biodiscovery Institute as a member of School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well- established and multidisciplinary research team comprising of chemists, life scientists, pharmacists and engineers to work on a protein-based anti-cancer drug delivery project supporting a group of 10+ Postdoctoral Researchers, PhD and Master’s students. Most of the work will be conducted in the Biodiscovery Institute which is a large (850 researchers) ‘state of the art’ facility for multidisciplinary research at the interface between Biology, Chemistry, Medicine and Pharmacy.

The successful candidate will have some delegated responsibility for safe laboratory practice within the group and contribute to the smooth running of the research laboratory including ensuring equipment is well maintained, laboratory consumable levels are sustained, and research materials are correctly archived.

Candidates must have either two or more ‘A’-levels, a HND or a BSc in Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related discipline. They should ideally have some knowledge of mammalian cell culture, sterile working and safe working practices in Biology and Chemistry laboratories. Candidates should have excellent organisational, communication and team-working skills, and be comfortable managing their time independently.

What the role involves:

  • Be a core member of the research technical team, working collaboratively with academic colleagues, post-doctoral researchers, postgraduates, undergraduates and the wider technical team.
  • Employ and maintain Health and Safety standards throughout all aspects of your work.
  • Provide laboratory technical support, ensuring day-to-day operational needs are met.
  • Support Outreach, Public Engagement and Knowledge Exchange.
  • Undertake calibration, basic maintenance and support of laboratory equipment and instruct colleagues on the safe and appropriate use.
  • Providing advice and solutions on technical specification requirements for advancing areas of research.
