Faculty / Directorate

The Faculty of Art Design and Humanities (ADH) is home to many of DMU's creative disciplines and humanities subjects and is one of the UK's leading Higher Education providers of creative disciplines. Working in a busy and enthusiastic administration team, we provide professional support service to our 5000 students and 300 members of staff across our 3 main buildings; the award-winning V J Patel Building, the Clephan Building and our Performing Arts Centre of Excellence.

Role

DMU has a 20-year Partnership with Liaoning University in Shenyang, NE China. Shenyang is famous for its blend of history, nature, culture, and modernity, and is within easy reach of the mountains, the coast and the Great Wall of China.

Your role will be to teach English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to students in the initial English Year of their 4-year dual award programme, which runs from September 2024 to June 2025.

You will be expected to:

  • Prepare and deliver EAP classes for 15-20 hours per week on campus at LNU.
  • Teach online from the UK if needed while a Z work visa is processed.
  • Support students through 1-1 and group tutorials. Assess students’ performance formatively in class and through summative assessments.
  • Work closely with co-tutors and the management team in the UK and China to ensure the success of the Programme.

Planned start date: 2nd September 2024

Planned contract end: 19th July 2025, with the potential to be extended for the academic year 2025-26.

Two return flights to China, accommodation and settling-in costs will be provided by DMU. Support in day-to-day life will provided by the partner university staff, some of whom are expatriate teachers. Please note that DMU can only employ people who are UK tax residents.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have: Diploma in English Language Teaching (DELTA) or an MA in ELT / TESOL plus CELTA or TESOL certificate. Minimum 5 years’ Experience of teaching EAP both face-to-face and online at a Higher Education Institution. The ability to cope with the demands of an intensive English programme. The flexibility and qualities needed to live in China and work on a Chinese university campus for a full academic year
