The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor to work within our busy Student Support and Wellbeing team. The post holder will work with colleagues from across Student Services and the wider University to provide specialist mental health and wellbeing support and resources for students, maximising their student experience.

The successful candidate will be required to operate as part of a team, working across the full spectrum of mental health and wellbeing difficulties, ensuring students access appropriate and timely support and adjustments to enable them to successfully complete their studies. As such, we are looking to appoint practitioners with relevant professional qualifications and significant post qualification experience of working with individuals experiencing mental health and wellbeing difficulties, including assessment of individuals with complex needs, risk assessment and high risk/crisis management.

Significant experience of managing caseloads is essential, as is experience of working to standard mental health and wellbeing assessments and/or triages, policies, and procedures. Joining our friendly team, the successful applicant will have the ability to establish relationships with people from both clinical and non -clinical backgrounds and communicate effectively showing a good understanding of diversity and inclusion issues relating to mental health and wellbeing.

The post holder will work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the University’s support services are widely promoted, accessible, efficient and of high quality, complying with professional standards. Also, alongside the wider team, the post holder will deliver mental health and wellbeing information, advice and guidance to individuals and groups, as well as contributing to preventative work undertaken by the team.

Applicants will be educated to degree level (or equivalent), with a relevant professional qualification in the field of mental health, for example: RMN nursing degree or equivalent, Mental Health Social Work, High Intensity Therapist/Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner qualification from a BPS accredited programme of study; Clinical psychology doctorate. 

Emotional resilience to work calmly under pressure is essential and the successful applicant will have the ability to recognise their own limitations and seek additional support where necessary.

The working pattern for the post is predominantly between Monday and Friday, 09:00-17:00, with a requirement to work one evening per week, until 9pm, working pattern is negotiable upon appointment. The post holder will need to be flexible in terms of working hours to support the service. 

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston. There will be the opportunity for blending working, with time working from home and from our purpose-built Student Centre at UCLan Preston Campus.
