Quality Assurance Microbiologist – PET Radiopharmacy

Cardiff University - Wales Positron Emission Tomography Imaging Centre Clinical Innovation Hub - School of Medicine

Location: Cardiff
Salary: £39,347 to £44,263 per annum (Grade 6)
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 31st July 2024
Closes: 20th August 2024
Job Ref: 18677BR

The Wales Research and Diagnostic PET Imaging Centre (PETIC) boasts a state-of-the-art cyclotron-based PET radiopharmaceutical production facility, which is situated in the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
We produce radiopharmaceuticals to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards under an MHRA Manufacturer’s Specials (MS) licence.

We have an exciting opportunity for a QA microbiologist to join our team. This is a new position, and we are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and flexible individual who will manage all onsite environmental monitoring activities for the GMP manufacture of PET radiopharmaceuticals.

As the QA microbiologist, you will act as PETIC’s subject matter expert for environmental monitoring and microbiology. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of PETIC’s environmental monitoring programme for the aseptic manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals. Working closely with the GMP departmental managers and the Quality Controller, you will ensure that all routine monitoring activities are performed. You will be the first point of contact for liaising with PETIC’s external microbiology contract lab to ensure that all work meets PETIC’s operational needs and quality standards.  As a key member of the QA team, you will contribute to ensuring the smooth running and continuous improvement of the Pharmaceutical Quality System.

You will be educated to degree level in microbiology, biological sciences, pharmacy or another directly relevant discipline, and you will have substantial practical experience of environmental monitoring in a licensed manufacturing laboratory. While comprehensive understanding and experience of working in accordance to EU GMP and MHRA regulatory guidelines is an essential requirement of the role, prior experience with radiopharmaceuticals is not essential, so this is an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise in a new setting.
