Lecturer in Modern American History (Fixed term for up to 12 months)

Sitting within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, our History department is a well-established subject with a strong research profile and a score of 93% for ‘teaching on my course’ in the 2023 National Student Survey. It is currently comprised of sixteen members of staff that teach a broad range of modules from the eighteenth century onwards. This includes the United Kingdom, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. More specific modules like nineteenth century Irish America, the history of US foreign relations, and nineteenth/twentieth century Latin American history, are also covered. We are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Modern American History (1735 – 1991) on a full-time basis, for a fixed term of up to 12 months. You will teach a number of modules related to Modern American History, focusing on the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. There would be an additional expectation around the delivery of wider foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate teaching as required. You should hold a PhD in a related discipline and have experience teaching at undergraduate level. The department would welcome proposals from the BAME academic community, who have historically been under-represented in the profession.
