PhD Studentship in Organizational Psychology

Birkbeck, University of London is seeking candidates with a background in quantitative psychology (organisational/social/similar discipline) for a fully-funded PhD Studentship in Organizational Psychology from October 2024 (or soon after).

The position is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation as part of an international research project entitled 'Overcoming Societal Tensions in Europe: Can Age-Diverse Friendships be the Solution?'

TASKS

  • Planning and implementation of quantitative empirical studies in the field of work and organizational psychology (primarily on the topic of age-diverse friendship
  • Statistical data analysis (e.g. with SPSS, Mplus, or R relating to Social Network Analysis and/or Dyadic Designs)
  • Literature research and manuscript preparation
  • Participation in the acquisition of new research projects and funds
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences
  • Publication of research results in international scientific journals
  • Collaborate with scholars and PhD students at partner universities in completing project tasks

ELIGIBILITY

  • Interest in the topic of age-diverse friendship/intergroup contact
  • Top-level master’s degree in psychology (or similar area)
  • Proven knowledge of research methods and statistics as well as the willingness to undertake complex data analysis
  • Beneficial: experience with social network analysis and/or actor-partnerinterdependence modeling/dyadic data analysis
  • Highly reliable, self-initiative, proactive and independent way of working
  • High quality communication skills
  • Desire to write scientific publications
  • Secure MS Office Skills (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

HOW TO APPLY

Instead, please provide a CV and a brief statement in support of your application (max 1,000 words), commenting on your interest in, and qualifications for, the studentship. Please upload these documents in lieu of the research proposal and writing sample when you are asked for these. Writing samples will be requested from shortlisted candidates at a later stage.
  • The 'Finance' section of the online application form will ask you whether you would like to be considered for a funding scheme. Please ensure that you answer ‘yes’ to this question, and specify ‘VW Foundation Age-Diverse Friendships studentship’.
