Areas of specialisation within the department include Design Justice and Spatial Politics, Retrofit and Reuse, Circular Economies, Urban Ecology, and Technologically Driven Design.
Your role will be principally based on the design studio and technologies modules in our BA(Hons) Architecture course and the selected candidate will have expertise in the area of "Retrofit and Reuse" or "Circular Economies". Your new role will present significant opportunities for training, including teaching qualifications (if needed) and career progression through leadership opportunities. Brighton's Architecture and Design courses are well established and have a history of excellence in industry-focused design education, producing award-winning graduates.
You will be expected to engage with colleagues to support ongoing course development, course administration, student recruitment, and other duties as required to fulfil your role successfully. Applicants should have a good understanding of current developments in architectural education, the accreditation processes of ARB and RIBA, and knowledge of the ARB changes to the curriculum, new competencies and regulatory framework for educating future architects. An awareness of contemporary architectural theory and practice - including emerging modes of design practice, interdisciplinary collaboration is essential, and digital competencies (e.g. AI, digital fabrication, AR/VR / XR, etc) is desirable. You will be expected to contribute to Studio and Architectural Technologies teaching at all levels of study.
In order to be successful in this role, you should have:
The school is particularly keen to appoint research-active lecturers to support future REF submissions. You will have a high-quality research profile (consistent with your career stage) and evidence of the potential to develop externally funded research programmes.
You will become a member of one of the Centres of Research Excellence (https://www.brighton.ac.uk/research/organisation/cores/index.aspx) with access to world class facilities within the School.
This is a 1.0FTE permanent Lecturer post; however, we welcome job-sharing applications.
If you would like an informal discussion before applying, please contact Jeff Turko (J.Turko@brighton.ac.uk) or Sarah Stevens (S.Stevens2@brighton.ac.uk).
