Applications are invited for the new post of Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology, within the University of Cambridge Department of Psychiatry, to take up the appointment in October 2024. The role would initially be for one year at 0.6FTE with the possibility of moving to full-time hours from October 2025. The Department is happy to take applications for those seeking a secondment.   

This new post will play a key role in the delivery of the academic, clinical and research components of the MPhil Foundations of Clinical Psychology and contributing to the wider research profile of the school, as outlined in the main activities below.  

The Assistant Professor will be required to undertake research, clinical work and teaching duties as assigned by Course Director and Head of Department. The field of research will be determined by the successful applicant in discussion with the Head of Department, Professor Tamsin Ford.  The successful candidate will be recommended for an honorary clinical contract with the Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation Trust 

It provides opportunities for post- higher degree research and facilitates applications for further research. The job responsibilities are divided approximately as 40% Teaching/Assessment; 40% Tutorials and Supervision; 10% Research; 5% Management; 5% Admission/Committee. 

Applicants should have had suitable experience and training in Clinical Psychology as recognized by the awarding of the DClinPsych or equivalent as conferred by the BPS or HCPC. They should be of the standing required for employment as a Clinical Psychologist within the NHS who are HCPC registered and have membership in the BPS and show outstanding potential for continuing a career in academic Clinical Psychology. 

Applicants should have a minimum of three years practicing as a Clinical Psychologist in the NHS. In addition, applicants must have previous experience of delivering training and/or supervision related to Clinical Psychology at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels; experience of providing pastoral and academic support to students or trainees on DClinPsych Clinical placement; a demonstrable record of engagement in research and innovation and/or advanced scholarly activity and knowledge exchange in subject specialism.
