About Us

We are Residential Life, we oversee the Halls of Residence at the University of East London. We manage 1169 bedrooms for students, casual lettings and summer conferencing guests ensuring all residents have an enjoyable stay with us. We are the first point of contact for all residents and prospective residents. Residential Life comprises of several areas including Marketing and Events, Maintenance & Estates, Welfare, Allocations & Applications and Customer Service.

About the Job

The Residential Life Officer (Estates Operations) will lead the Residential Life Estates Operations team, liaising with key stakeholders to maintain and enhance UEL’s Halls of Residence. The post holder will provide effective operational management of our Halls of Residence, Summer Conferencing programmes, proactively seeking improvements our student and guest experience in residences.

The main areas of work include:

  • Managing a significant budget for the enhancement and estates operations of the Halls of Residence.
  • Work with senior colleagues to co-ordinate campus safety projects and Residential Life behaviour procedures.
  • Manage the Residential estate capital projects, through strategic planning, budget management and resource allocation. Ensure alignment with the UEL Projects team for the successful execution of the estate development.
  • Line manage staff ensuring staff members have clear roles, objectives, and responsibilities. Ensure effective service delivery and PDRs are undertaken.
  • Manage, implement and regularly evaluate policies and procedures related to the Estates Operations and Health and Safety of the Halls of Residence, ensuring compliance with the UUK audit. 
  • Lead the Halls of Residence turnaround schedule ahead of summer conferencing and new resident intake.
  • Lead on the Estates operations liaising with colleagues in Estates and Facilities to ensure resident satisfaction and income targets being met. 

About You

You should have experience of facility management, ideally with experience liaising with maintenance, cleaning and security teams. You must have knowledge and understanding of health and safety and other statutory requirements related to the provision of student residential accommodation.

You will be able to able to assess key priorities and allocate time and resources appropriately. Experience of managing misconduct or behaviour issues, through a restorative or educational approach is advantageous.

You must have experience reaching objectives and goals and be committed to delivering outstanding customer service to all. 

You will be willing to work weekends and work on campus full time.
