We are recruiting a dedicated Research Associate on a UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) funded project “Understanding water infrastructure risks - major bursts, traffic volumes and the condition of road infrastructure” which aims to examine the possible link between road condition and the prevalence of burst water mains in the UK and Northern Ireland. This project provides a unique opportunity to contribute to research and development in soil-water-structure interaction of underground pipe networks.

Educated to PhD level, you will possess a good working knowledge of water distribution systems and soil-structure interaction. You will take an active role in collecting, documenting, categorising and analysing data on the prevalence and possible mechanisms of failure of water mains failures via load transfer through soil. You will consider international research on related problems and how this may be utilised in the UK context. The role will include planning the data collection including appropriate case studies, analysing and interpreting results. Findings will be presented at steering group meetings, in reports and publications. This role offers an exciting opportunity to extend your professional network within academia and the water industry.

This post is fixed-term with a flexible start date from 1st September 2024, for a maximum duration of 5 months Full Time (noting Part Time is possible) ending on or before 30th July 2024.
