Middlesex University London seeks to appoint an outstanding academic leader as their Joint Institute Dean (Arts and Creative Industries), Middlesex College of Minzu University of China. The College is a non-independent international joint-venture learning institution established by Minzu University of China in collaboration with Middlesex. Located on the island of Hainan off the south coast of China, the Joint Institute will be a hub for arts and creative industries education, research and knowledge exchange in the region. After opening its doors to students last year, the Joint Institute offers four undergraduate programmes including Dance Performance, Music, Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design and Visual Cultures), and Fashion Design, as well as a Masters programme in Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design and Visual Cultures).

The new Joint Institute Dean (Arts and Creative Industries) will play a pivotal role in the development of Middlesex College of Minzu University of China. Reporting to the Dean of Middlesex’s Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, the new Dean will provide the leadership, vision and drive to take the Joint Institute forward. Working closely with the faculty leadership team, Joint Institute academics and technicians, partners from Minzu University, and external stakeholders, the Dean will focus on strategic and operational management as well as fostering a culture of research and knowledge exchange. They will line manage Middlesex faculty in Hainan and will identify and lead on new opportunities for strengthening academic excellence, teaching, and student satisfaction.  

Ideal candidates will be proactive, innovative, and strategic thinkers with an agile approach to leadership and change management. The successful candidate will need to hit the ground running and operate within a fast-paced environment. They will have a background in the arts or creative industries, a demonstrable ability to lead growth, and an international outlook. Superb communication and influencing skills will be critical, as will a commitment to providing the best experience for students and staff and enabling these communities to excel.
