The role

To co-ordinate the administration for the Bristol component of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School for Public Health Research (SPHR) and other research activities which form part of the Bristol Centre for Public Health (CPH).  The Centre for Public Health hosts Bristol’s membership of The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School for Public Health Research (SPHR), the NIHR Public Health Intervention Research Studies team (PHIRST-Insight) and a growing portfolio of Public Health Research. The Centre undertakes research into public health with an emphasis on what works practically and meets the needs of policy makers, practitioners and the public. The Centre also hosts teaching and training programmes, including an MSc in Public Health, PhD studentships, internships and fellowships.

What will you be doing?

You will manage and deliver an excellent administrative service for Bristol NIHR SPHR and other aspects of the Centre for Public Health.  You will provide administration support for senior academics and high level management and executive support to the Bristol Lead and Deputy Director for the NIHR SPHR, using own initiative to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the NIHR SPHR, assist with recruitment, undertake budget monitoring, organise and support a range of internal and external events, design and prepare a range of documents and publicity material, maintain social media accounts and webpages as requested, as well as other tasks required in the provision of a professional support service.

You will also provide administrative support for the SPHR Public Mental Health Programme which is co-led by the Universities of Bristol and Cambridge. 

You should apply if

You are qualified to A level or vocational qualification (NVQ 3-4, level 3-4 business apprenticeship) or equivalent, plus have some experience in relevant role or significant work experience in relevant role.

You are proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software, e-mail and web, and general office systems to include web content management systems and general office systems. You are able to manage information electronically through databases and spreadsheets.

You have experience of providing PA/Executive support and diary management, servicing meetings, managing agenda items, taking and producing minutes to a high standard and with minimal turn-round time, and following up agenda items in a timely manner.

You have experience of working in a busy, diverse and demanding environment, able to prioritise and under pressure at times to produce accurate work to deadlines.

You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to take ownership of problems and find solutions and build relationships and interact effectively at all levels and with a wide range of internal and external contacts.

Additional information

Contract type: Open-ended with fixed funding until 24/03/2026

Shift pattern: 35 hours per week (part-time will be considered, but no less than 0.6 FTE)
