The Role

As Research Fellow within the Centre for Physical Activity, Sport and Exercise Sciences you will undertake and play a lead role in the development of impactful research and consultancy activity.  Developing and identifying new research objectives, proposals, and impact activities for your own or joint research, while contributing to REF impact rated nationally/internationally excellent.

You will apply innovative research methods and extend the research portfolio including the publication of your research results and outcomes. Building internal and external networks for the exchange of information and future collaboration, sharing information, and identifying potential sources of funds will play a key part of this role.

Contributing to teaching, learning and development programmes as appropriate, you will use research findings to inform curriculum development while assisting in the development of student research skills.

We are a transdisciplinary, international collaboration focused on youth movement behaviour and links to holistic development. We use innovative techniques and cutting-edge approaches to solve the population issues around inadequate motor skill development and poor levels of physical activity.

Led by Prof Mike Duncan (Coventry University and Prof Lisa Barnett (Deakin University) our multidisciplinary team includes staff from health, arts and education, sport, engineering, and information technology. We have a mix of senior, mid-career and early career researchers and those from quantitative and qualitative paradigms.

Qualifications Required

PhD (or equivalent) or professional experience equivalent to a PhD demonstrating an ability to carry-out independent research with a 1st Class/2.1 Degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences, Strength and Conditioning, Physical Education or a related subject.

Our Successful Candidate

A highly motivated and experienced Research Fellow with demonstrable expert knowledge and understanding of Sport, Exercise, Physical Education, or related subjects, including experience contributing to the innovation and development of the field.  An Advanced knowledge of research methods and techniques with demonstrable adherence to all regulations, you will have the ability to develop research objectives, projects, and proposals for own and joint research.

Research sufficient to write up research and produce excellent, high-quality publications in high profile peer reviewed journals and present at national/international events, you will be committed to working collaboratively on research development, delivery and dissemination including interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary research, public engagement, and knowledge exchange.

We are recruiting a Research Fellow based in Coventry to help grow and strengthen our consortium. Our research interests include:

  • analysing big data to answer important questions in the field of motor development for physical activity.
  • objective automated novel technologies for motor skill measurement that can be used by the end user (e.g., teachers, coaches)
  • developing instrumentation around physical literacy that can be used by the end user (e.g., teachers, coaches)
  • complex system science intervention frameworks/evaluations in motor skill development
  • novel ways to increase children’s physical literacy.
