An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Statistician to join the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU) Statistics Team and the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM). OCTRU is one of the largest academic Clinical Trials Units in the UK, https://www.ndorms.ox.ac.uk/octru. The post is based within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), University of Oxford.
 
You will have the opportunity to contribute to the design, undertaking, analysis and presentation of results of funded non-commercial clinical trials across all phases of trials and in multiple areas of medicine including surgery, rheumatology, trauma, orthopaedics and oncology. New team members undergo a training programme in clinical trial statistics during their first year.
 
As a medical statistician you will provide expert input on the statistical aspects of the design and set-up of clinical research projects, working within a multidisciplinary team. You will provide advice on data collection, case report form (CRF) development, data validation, data cleaning and data management. You will produce statistical programs for analysis of study data, including generating, validating, and monitoring randomisation schedules and performing interim and final analyses. As part of your role you will attend and occasionally contribute to OCTRU/CSM activities such as seminars, conferences, workshops etc. Statisticians within the OCTRU team are encouraged to participate in methodological work in addition to their core responsibilities. You will also contribute to the dissemination of research findings via peer reviewed publications and presentations at investigator meetings and national/international meetings
 
You must have a postgraduate degree in statistics (or a closely related subject), a substantial part of which relates to medical statistics, along with some experience of working as a medical statistician (in the absence of a postgraduate degree addition experience work be expected). Specialist knowledge in all aspects of design, running and analysing clinical trials and experience as a Clinical Trials Unit statistician is preferred. Proficiency in statistical programming is required, and experience of producing statistical reports and contributing to peer-review publications desirable.
 
This is a full-time, fixed term post available for 2 years based in the Botnar Research Centre. For this post a pattern of hybrid working (involving part office, part remote location) will be possible with the agreement of your line manager.
 
A lower grade offer may be considered (Grade 6: £32,332 - £38,205 per annum) depending on experience, with commensurate reduction in responsibilities if a suitable candidate cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position.
