About the role:
The Department of Materials is recognised internationally for its excellence in research and teaching. With an annual intake of over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate masters students, we are the largest Materials department in the UK and are regularly ranked among the top few Materials departments in world. Our mission in education is to deliver research-inspired, socially relevant programmes to train people who will be valued for their scientific expertise, creativity, resourcefulness and teamwork. Further details about the department are available at https://www.imperial.ac.uk/materials/
During the 2023-24 academic year the Department had 60 staff engaged in teaching, 410 enrolled undergraduate students on BEng and MEng programmes and 76 postgraduate students enrolled on our 1-year MSc programme. The undergraduate degree programmes in Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial are centred around understanding the interrelationships between processing, structure, properties and performance, which lie at the heart of the discipline. Teaching focuses on applied science and engineering, with a grounding in theory and a great emphasis on practical work with advanced equipment.
