About the role

The Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication (CLCC) is seeking a Part Time Teaching Fellow to develop and teach our undergraduate Practical Art provision, specifically our Year 1, 2 and 3 modules in Practical Art. Joining an established team in our Humanities and Social Sciences field, you will design and deliver excellent teaching, with a focus on practical art, for undergraduate students from scientific, technical and medical backgrounds.

Imperial is committed to providing an educational experience that empowers graduates to be leaders in their chosen careers and contribute meaningfully to society. In 2012–13, Imperial introduced the Horizons programme for undergraduate students which, in 2020, became part of the I-Explore Programme and is now embedded within the students’ curriculum as a compulsory part of their degree programme. Based in the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication (CLCC).

What you would be doing

You will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking teaching, including lectures and tutorials, using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods
  • Devising and delivering exemplary teaching, learning support, assessment and feedback using synchronous and/or asynchronous online sessions and face to face sessions, supported by relevant digital tools
  • Undertaking teaching administration, such as organisation of teaching activities, coordination of internal/visiting lecturers, attendance records, etc
  • Assessing the work and progress of students using appropriate methods and criteria. Provide constructive feedback on essays and course assessments in accordance with University deadlines
  • Supporting and advising students when required and, when necessary, liaison with departmental tutors regarding students in difficulty
  • Designing and developing new modules and continuous review of existing modules and processes, to ensure that provision remains relevant, is informed by research, and meets the objectives of the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy
  • Regular communication with management, administration, IT support, room support and other teaching staff, and attendance at relevant meetings.
  • Providing website updates, and updated reading lists to the library Leganto system.

What we are looking for

You will have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification/be nearing the completion of a postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • A track record of teaching in practical arts and promoting effective learning in higher education
  • Demonstrable familiarity with a variety of student-centred strategies to promote and assess teaching and to provide constructive, high-quality feedback
  • Experience of curriculum and assessment design in visual arts
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent competency in digital learning technologies
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team in an open-minded and cooperative manner to manage and successfully deliver project outcomes
  • Subject-specific expertise and command of disciplines relevant to practical art modules
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of resources for enhancing teaching and learning
  • Recent experience of, and proven competence in, teaching and with demonstrable ability to teach practical art effectively at UG level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

What we can offer you

This is a part time post, with variable hours agreed annually, based on student demand. Teaching takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.

This role requires the post-holder’s attendance on campus. It is expected that the successful candidate will carry out a range of duties including on non-teaching days and in the university vacation period.
