Project Manager (Grade 7)

University of Liverpool - Department of Physics

Location: Liverpool
Salary: £38,205 to £44,264 pa
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 22nd July 2024
Closes: 8th September 2024
Job Ref: 082866

We are recruiting an experienced Project Manager to work on the EuPRAXIA Project with Professor Carsten P Welsch.

EuPRAXIA is the first European project that develops a dedicated particle accelerator research infrastructure based on novel plasma acceleration concepts and laser technology. It focuses on the development of electron accelerators and underlying technologies, their user communities, and the exploitation of existing accelerator infrastructures in Europe. It was accepted onto the ESFRI roadmap for strategically important research infrastructures in June 2021 as a European priority.

EuPRAXIA comprises several sub-projects, including the multi-million Euro EuPRAXIA Preparatory Phase and EuPRAXIA Doctoral Network projects. We are seeking to recruit an experienced project manager to support these two projects, working closely with the academic lead, Professor Carsten P Welsch, the coordinating institution INFN, as well as other international project partners.

As part of wider School of Physical Sciences Professional Services, you will be an integral member of the Project T.E.A.M., based at the Cockcroft Institute. You will be in daily contact with and work in support of Professor Welsch. You will be responsible for the administrative day-to-day management of both projects and make important contributions to large-scale events including Schools, Workshops and Conferences, as well as wider EuPRAXIA communication activities. This includes monitoring progress across large scale research and training programs, contributions to the organization of scientific and outreach events, and efficient communication of all project outcomes internationally.

You will act as a key point of contact for the doctoral candidates within the EuPRAXIA Doctoral Network, as well as project partners, policy makers and media across EuPRAXIA. You will develop and maintain excellent working relationships with other University departments, support staff and project partners.

In terms of your own background, you will have experience in the management of large-scale projects, ideally with postgraduate training programs, such as Marie Curie networks or Centres for Doctoral Training. Excellent organizational and communication skills, combined with a high degree of self-motivation, a pro-active approach to work, and team orientation are an asset.

A very good command of English and experience in working in international contexts is a requirement.  You should have a degree (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience), and experience of working in international contexts. A PhD in physics, engineering or a related area is desirable, experience in giving presentations to scientific audiences and in writing about scientific results would be advantageous.

Travel to international conferences and/or project partners will be required as part of the post. This role is based at the Cockcroft Institute on the campus of Daresbury Laboratory.

The post is initially available until the end of March 2027.

The University of Liverpool is committed to enhancing workforce diversity. We actively seek to attract, develop, and retain colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
