Overview: The Institute of Geochemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences is seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our computational mineral physics team. The research will contribute to the core topics of our group- primarily critical element mineralisation, volatiles in the Earth and the storage of elements in the Earth. This is a flexible position and there are multiple topics on which they can work in these fields depending upon skills and interests and the researcher will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas focused in an area of computational mineral physics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use various calculation software (DFT, forcefield, machine learning) to solve mineral physics problems alongside other members of the group and experimental colleagues
  • Assist in the construction of a high-performance scientific computing big data and machine learning platform for the National Key Laboratory of Critical Mineral Mineralization and Prediction
  • Develop large scale models incorporating new theoretical methods and machine learning procedures for wider scope and interpretation
  • Develop proposals for future research particularly related to the key missions of our institute
  • Optimize data mining and feature engineering techniques to improve model performance and adaptability, ensuring accuracy in practical applications
  • Enhance the level of model interpretation and result reporting, providing clear reports for non-experts to facilitate understanding of mineral geochemical processes
  • Drive technological innovation by proposing and implementing innovative exploration and geochemical analysis methods

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Geological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field
  • Practical experience in atomistic simulation software
  • Experience with numerical simulations and analytical methods
  • Proficiency in English
  • Open to all nationalities with assistance for obtaining visas

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with coding, numerical analysis and geochemical data analysis
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team
  • Deep familiarity with the geological processes of the Earth and current unsolved and important problems

  • Competitive salary package based on capability levels. Salaries are between 250000-400000 a year depending upon qualification and publication record with opportunity to quickly rise up this scale upon arrival

Location:

This job is located in Guiyang, Guizhou China. This is a city which is growing in stature due to the temperate environment- avoiding the extreme hot and cold of other places in China- the beautiful surroundings- forests and karst landscapes- and current investments- high speed rail now links it to major cities in China and a brand new subway system connects the city to itself. The institute is located in the new area of the city, Guanshanhu, which is more quiet and relaxed than the old city but still contains many restaurants and an active nightlife.
