We are seeking an experienced professor in the Accounting Group to cultivate academic excellence. You will be an accomplished academic in accounting with an international research profile, capable of guiding and nurturing the Accounting Group. Ideal candidates will show a willingness and aptitude for leading the group. The group comprises over 30 scholars who, collectively, study and teach the role of information and governance in internal decision-making processes, in capital markets and in informing stakeholders more broadly.

We are a cohesive, diverse and comprehensive team of researchers working across a range of research topics taking a variety of approaches. We have strategic links with academic associations and key professional bodies, regulators, and standard setters. Our academics publish their research in leading journals. They also hold positions on the editorial boards of leading international accounting journals.

The Accounting Group works closely with colleagues in Finance and Management in teaching and research. Research is organised into three themes: accounting, sustainability and governance; financial reporting; and management accounting. Across the Business School, other research themes include banking, corporate finance, financial markets, sustainable production, inclusivity consumption and economy, work futures, innovation and digitalisation, public services governance and management, global political economy and action research and critical inquiry.

What will you be doing?

  • Consistently pursuing high quality research and impact in accounting.
  • Maintaining an international profile/network and attracting external research funding.
  • Engaging with professional accounting institutes and regulatory bodies.
  • Contributing effectively to teaching programmes run within the faculty and to the leadership of relevant programmes and course teaching teams.
  • Planning and leading the successful implementation of research and education activities and programmes of outstanding quality and international repute.
  • Supervising PhD theses and MSc dissertations.
  • Contributing effectively to the enhancement of quality in teaching within the School and Faculty.
  • Ensuring that teaching is quality assured and achieves the educational standards expected within the University.
  • Providing academic leadership, including leadership within the Group and School, helping and motivating staff with research and other scholarly activities.
  • Making a wider contribution to the success of the University through participation in Faculty and University-wide governance and development activities.
  • Having direct line management responsibility for some academic staff and some other staff within their Group and being responsible for their Staff Review and Development.

You should apply if

  • You have an internationally excellent research profile in accounting that complements and extends the existing strengths and priorities of the Accounting Group and the Business School more broadly.
  • You have an aptitude and appetite for contributing to the intellectual vibrancy of the Accounting Academic Group by conducting and publishing excellent research, delivering high quality education programmes and mentoring junior colleagues.
