As well as expertise in learning and teaching, the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is widely recognised for world-class research. We are now seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cardiac Electrophysiology to work within One Health Cardiology Research Group at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Surrey. The project will involve characterising the cardiac electrophysiological and molecular mechanism associated with a range of genetic mutations

About the role 

The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team at the school and will be primarily engaged in the conduct of electrophysiological work (e.g patch clamp studies, sharp electrode experiment, calcium imaging etc). The candidate ideally should be familiar with live tissue slicing and working with hIPSC cultures and selected molecular work primarily associated with mitochondrial studies using flux analyzers. Additionally, a major component of this post will also involve data analysis and interpretation data management and archiving, project administration and manuscript preparation. A proven track record in these areas is essential. 

The position is a 1 FTE fixed-term for 12 months with option for renewal for another 24 months subject to satisfactory performance. 

About you 

  • Candidates should hold a PhD in a related discipline and ideally with previous postdoctoral research experience. 
  • Applicants must be highly motivated, enthusiastic and engage in scholarly activities conducive to a long-term successful academic career that will support and enhance the research culture within the school. 
  • Applicants should be prepared to travel abroad for collection of tissue samples.
