Economic Researcher

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly respected research team and help the Law Society shape the evidence base that underpins support for our members and their businesses. You will analyse regional, national, and international economic data to identify trends and insights that can be used directly in Law Society advice, campaigning and promotion of the profession. The role involves research on a range of economic issues impacting the legal sector, including benefits and costs of government interventions, working at the forefront of the emerging field of justice economics.

You will liaise with key internal and external stakeholders including government economists and academics, use evidence to identify priority issues, and manage external economic consultants to source specialist expertise and capacity. Working with colleagues from across Policy, Communications and Public Affairs, you will also help to ensure that our policy positions are grounded in the robust data and analysis for maximum impact.

This is an exciting and varied role where your expertise and knowledge will be used to great effect to make a real impact for our members and society.

What we're looking for

You will be educated to degree level in Economics or other related with relevant experience in an economist or associated research/analytical role. You will possess deep understanding of macro and micro economic theory and knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and proven analytical and problem-solving skills that deliver outcomes which focus on policy development.

You will have the ability to provide clarity to complex issues and synthesise large amounts of information, applying a logical process to derive insights. For example, running through several data sets to draw the right conclusions.

You will also have knowledge of statistical/analytical tools including SPSS, Excel, R, or similar software.

In addition, you will be able to analyse the underlying economic causes of business problems such that we can provide stronger support and guidance to solicitor firms on the competitive and other pressures they face. You will be able to assess implications for the profession and have excellent writing skills to communicate these in a concise, clear and persuasive manner.
