Your Responsibility

Your key responsibilities include:

The new role, Deputy Director of Learning Technologies, is required to work closely with the Associate Dean of ESE in each Faculty and CELE to shape the vision and strategy to embed digital learning across the curriculum, enhance student experience, and drive innovation. The role holder will foster relationships across the university to promote and support the design and delivery of digital learning, develop relevant guidance and standards, and monitor and analyse the use of digital tools.

The role holder is responsible for keeping UNNC Digital Learning Plan up-to-date by collaborating Faculties, Learning Technologies UNUK and UNM, prioritising key deliverables/projects for each academic year and ensuring these deliverables contribute to the quality of teaching learning and enhance students’ experience.

The role holder should be excellent in identifying digital/AI learning technologies and build network with academic communities to embed UNNC digital learning plan into teaching learning practice, create opportunities for staff and students to adopt/experience digital technologies for their daily work.

  • Provide the development of strategic support to UNNC digital learning at UNNC;
  • Provide cross-university leadership on digital learning and overseeing the implementation of digital learning initiatives in line with the Digital Learning Plan and the Campus Development Plan;
  • Champion effective adoption, application and implementation of educational technologies across teaching and learning related activities and different delivery modes such as in class, online or hybrid while catering for the requirements of key stakeholders;
  • Established university-wide best practice and standards for teaching with educational technologies;
  • Lead on building and managing strategic relationships between the Library, Schools, faculties and professional services departments. Ensure effective engagement with Associate Deans for Education and Student Experience, Heads of School, Directors of Teaching, digital learning leads;
  • Forge teaching and learning relationships and initiatives in line with university teaching and learning strategies, the Digital Learning Plan, Campus Development Plan;
  • Align learning technologies, resources and services to the curriculum, focusing on learning outcomes;
  • Build acceptance of teaching and learning systems, technologies across user groups and disseminate best practice across the organisation;
  • Maintain and develop relationships within the Library and other university professional services so that services and communication are joined-up;
  • Lead the digital learning staff development programme, communication and promotion strategy across campus delivering a range of workshops, events and initiatives promoting educational technologies for learning, teaching and assessment;
  • Work with HR on the delivery of the mandatory induction of new academics;
  • Attend networking events, learning and teaching related conferences and socials to promote the service and build networks;
  • Provide expertise, leadership and guidance on digital education to cross-university projects, project teams and initiatives
  • Direct and lead learning technology projects. Steering the scope and shape of work, ensuring cross department links are made, and that resources are prioritised in line with strategy. Oversee the management of all aspects of the project lifecycle including planning, benefits realisation and closure. This will also include input into:
    • Business case development;
    • Commissioning external consultants and temporary staff as skills and capacity dictate;
    • Facilitating agreement with senior stakeholders of project/programme scope and success criteria;
  • Grow the service offering in line with institutional and stakeholder requirements as well in response to external developments such as the emergence of AI bots: seek out new technologies, identify areas of support;
  • Actively engage with, influence and support University teaching and learning strategic initiatives in partnership with Associate Deans for Education and Student Experience and academic colleagues, align and embed learning technology in the teaching environment;
  • Organise teaching community activities and opportunities for staff to engage with the service;
  • Oversee the development and manage growth of the service’s online knowledge base;
  • Manage the university’s digital literacy online student module and collaborate with relevant teams in promoting student digital literacy across the university;
  • Maintain close relationships with UNUK and UNM to ensure an excellent service delivery
  • Expand ties with UNUK to ensure the successful implementation of all priorities of the Digital Learning Plan
  • Collaborate on tri-campus initiatives such as tri-campus teaching ensuring an excellent student and staff experience across all campuses
  • Maintain awareness of new services or policies delivered in the other two campuses as well as of national, legal and regulatory changes with regards to digital technologies, data, accessibility and inclusive teaching
  • Lead, manage, motivate, inspire, guide and support the Learning Technology team;
  • Acting as escalation point for issues and problems;
  • Encourage CPD, help the team manage their development needs;
  • Set and review goals for staff as part of the University PDPR process; implement HR processes and guidelines for managing performance;
  • Collaborate and communicate with other professional services on behalf of the team for successful deliverables;

About You

  • Bachelor Degree
  • CMALT or FHEA or higher or equivalent
  • Ideally, at least 5 years of experience in a senior educational technologies role, ideally in the UK, EU, US, Australia or a similar international setting, international university in Asia or similar institution;
  • Experience running staff development, pedagogical and hands-on workshops catering for different skills levels;
  • Experience designing teaching materials and online technical guidance and resources;
  • Experience of the application of technologies to support teaching/learning practice;
  • Working with academics in HE to promote and support digital learning support;
  • Experience of the application of technologies to support teaching/learning practice;
  • High levels of proficiency in LMS, video platform, eportfolio and collaborative tools use, content design tools, learning design tools and other common educational technologies;
  • Experience of developing and implementing communication and engagement strategies and initiatives;
  • Experience of the management and direction of projects;
  • A proactive approach to service development;
  • Excellence in leadership management;
  • Excellent team management skills and the ability to motivate and inspire a team;
  • Instructional design skills
  • Excellent influencing skills gained at a senior level;
  • Expert knowledge of blended, online, hybrid and digital learning pedagogies and their application in HE;
  • Outstanding management skills including project and change management;
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • An ability to work effectively in a team environment with colleagues from different professional and cultural backgrounds;
  • A good understanding of the UK HE system, learning and teaching culture as well as a familiarity with the main learning and teaching challenges in East Asia
  • An ability to prioritise and to schedule workloads in the face of conflicting demands, within resource limitations;
  • Knowledge of national and international best practice and standards in learning technology provision;
  • Customer services and customer relationship management skills
  • Excellent information technology skill
