About us

The UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is UCL’s new institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research - the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible.

About the role

As a Research Data Steward (AKA research data manager, data consultant, data wrangler, or bioinformatician) you'll provide technically focused support and consultancy to researchers at UCL, helping them to improve their data management.

You'll spend much of their time embedded within research projects, but also contribute to new research proposals and collaborate on research data service design.

Salary range for the Senior Research Data Steward: £51,474 to £65,698 (including London Allowance) depending on experience. USS pension Scheme offers staff contribute 6.1% and UCL will contribute 14.6%

About you

To be a Research Data Steward at UCL you will need experience of conducting or supporting data-intensive research in an academic research environment and the technical skills to document, process and transform data. You'll need to be an excellent communicator with the ability to explain technical and specialised concepts clearly to non-technical academic and support staff.

For this post, we are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in Trusted Research, with a strong background in working with sensitive data, ideally from a governance perspective. You should understand information security and risk management, and have good knowledge of the issues involved in processing and disseminating sensitive data.

Applicants should therefore have demonstrable experience of delivering in one or more of the following areas: the ISO27001 standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), Trusted Research Environments (TRE), Secure Data Environments (SDE), Data Safe Havens (DSH), the ‘Five Safes’ framework, and/or Digital Economy Act (DEA) accreditation.
