Are you a highly organised individual, with good attention to detail and a strong interest in gambling and video game research?

We are looking to recruit a Research Assistant to work on the project “Using the Meta Ad repository to empirically assess advertising of gambling and gambling-like mechanics in video games” funded by the Academic Forum for the Study of Gambling with administrative support from Greo Evidence Insights.

You will be working within the School of Psychology and reporting to Dr Elena Petrovskaya and Leon Y. Xiao from the IT University of Copenhagen (Denmark). The project also involves working with senior researchers in the School of Psychology at Lincoln (Professor Amanda Roberts) and collaborators from KU Leuven (Belgium) and University College Cork (Ireland).

The project involves working with the Meta Ad Library (https://www.facebook.com/ads/library), an online database which stores adverts that have been published on Meta-owned social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger) to collect information about gambling and video game advertising. As the Research Assistant, your role will be to carry out searches on this database and note down information about adverts, as well as study their design and content and analyse this using content analysis. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to writing up the outputs of the study in academic publications.

Ideally, we are hoping to recruit somebody with lived experience of gambling harms. You will also have basic IT skills and be willing to learn how to access and obtain data from the ad repositories of social media platforms. You will be mentored by the project team and will be able to acquire new skills relevant to the project.

Good written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work well with members of the wider project teams and School of Psychology staff. You will also either already possess or be working towards a Masters or Honours Degree in any field. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

This position requires hybrid working with a potential start date of September 2024.

The University of Lincoln offers exciting career opportunities with the chance to grow and develop to reach your full potential. We also offer a wide range of staff benefits, including a generous annual leave allowance of 35 days per year pro rata (plus an additional 14 bank holiday and concessionary days), progressive pay rates, access to discounts at popular stores and more.

If you wish to have an informal discussion regarding this role, please contact Dr Elena Petrovskaya, Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Psychology/Addiction at EPetrovskaya@lincoln.ac.uk.
