The School of Engineering and Built Environment

The Built Environment is focused on understanding, designing and constructing the spaces and places of the contemporary world. We are specialists in education, industrial knowledge exchange and the practices of science, academic inquiry, research, technology and design required to address the key environment, social and technological challenges faced by humankind on earth.

The Department has three disciplinary areas: Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and Construction Project Management. In addition to seeking external research funding, staff research activity also focuses on contributions to REF Unit of Assessment (UoA) 13 - Architecture, Built Environment and Planning. Sheffield Hallam University's high-quality research outputs in this field have been recognised in the last assessment.
