PhD Studentship: Development of hydrogen tank models

University of Bristol - School of Civil, Aerospace, and Design Engineering

Qualification Type: PhD
Location: Bristol
Funding for: UK Students, EU Students, International Students
Funding amount: UKRI standard rate (£19,237 per annum for 2024/25)
Hours: Full Time
Placed On: 15th July 2024
Closes: 31st December 2024

The project:

An exciting opportunity exists to develop and test computational fluid dynamics for modelling fuel slosh and coupled structural dynamics for future aircraft liquid hydrogen tanks.

As part of the EU hydrogen aircraft sloshing tank advancement project (HASTA), this project will work to develop fluid-structure coupled smoothed particle hydrodynamics for the purpose of capturing free surface behavior, including interactions with the dynamic motion of the tank structure and associated heat transfer. Work will involve developing mathematical models of physical processes, coding and high-performance computing use.

The project will progress from development of initial and existing modelling concepts through to presentation of results via international conference attendance and journal paper publications.

How to apply:

Please make an online application for this project at http://www.bris.ac.uk/pg-howtoapply. Please select Aerospace Engineering PhD on the Programme Choice page. You will be prompted to enter details of the studentship in the Funding and Research Details sections of the form.
